One of the most frequent health complaints is dizziness. And there are many types of dizziness treatments such as surgery, medication and vertigo exercises. Dizziness is technically known as vertigo, it can be defined as the feeling of movement when you are not moving. There are many different causes of dizziness ranging from non-serious conditions to more serious conditions. This article will focus on the dizziness caused by BPPV or benign positional vertigo.

The condition of lightheadedness must be understood to be different from dizziness. Although it may not seem like an important distinction these are different symptoms and have different causes and will be treated very differently. A medical treatment of dizziness is the use of drugs or medication and while effective for symptoms it does little for the actual cause. The use of herbal solutions and what is called vertigo exercises are also dizziness treatment options.

When you feel lightheaded you will experience a feeling as though you are about to pass out or faint. A small feeling of dizziness may be present but true dizziness which is a sensation of your surroundings or yourself moving, will not be felt. Symptoms of lightheadedness are often relieved by lying down. It can also be experienced with the lightheadedness a sense of sickness in the stomach. Usually lightheadedness will happen when changing positions from lying or sitting to a standing position. The movement from seated/lying to standing requires more pressure to keep enough blood to the head, when this fails to occur you will feel lightheaded. This is commonly referred to as orthostatic hypotension and can be caused by low blood pressure.

Vertigo is the sensation that either you or your surroundings are moving when they are actually not. You may experience feelings of turning, spinning, falling or tipping. It is common to experience sickness in the stomach or nausea also. You may have trouble walking or standing and the resultant balance issues can lead to falls. The most common cause of vertigo is BPPV or benign positional vertigo. This is caused by tiny loose particles or debris in the inner ear balance organs. These loose debris disrupt the balance receptors causing the feeling of vertigo.

Throughout time there have been many dizziness treatments used for BPPV or benign positional vertigo. In this instance symptoms can be relieved by using drugs or medication which will desensitize the nervous system and lessen the feelings of vertigo and nausea, but will not fix the cause of the problem. This is also the case with the herb ginger which can help ease nausea but not correct the underlying problem of BPPV.

There are safe and scientifically proven dizziness treatments for BPPV or benign positional vertigo. These are drug free and do not involve surgery. The goal of these treatments is to correct the cause or underlying problem of the BPPV or benign positional vertigo. They do not simply mask or cover up the symptoms.
